With Christmas hangovers nursed and healed, and the Carnimas Boxing Day event a massive hit, Dominicans have well and truly moved on from the holiday festivities and into fete season. The Rogue Silent Headphones Party was advertised and met with much hype, especially around the town of Portsmouth, weeks prior to the event. Rogue was organised by Valdpro, an entertainment group which most notably hosted Sandola, a soca counterpart to the renowned Jazz and Creole.
The event was located at Valentine’s in Picard, Portsmouth, near The Champs and Tulips restaurants. The night featured a rotating roster of famous DJs, including Portsmouth’s very own DJ Selectah Urban. Each headset switched between two channels, but the options were far from stagnant as each DJ flexed their chops and smoothly transitioned between genres, from contemporary R&B to old school rap, and even 90s love ballads. Not to mention the fan favourites, bouyon, soca and modern hip hop.
